T-boned by an Accord. He forgot the last part of look left, then right, then left again. He was cited for failure to yield.
The impact spun me almost 180°. I was alone, so there wasn’t anyone to experience the joy of having a side-curtain airbag go off next to them. There was an impressive whump when he hit me, but I don’t know if it was from the impact or the air bag going off.
The sheet metal is digging into the tire and the sidewall is cut, so a new set of tires will be needed. There’s also a chip in the wheel, so I’m guessing that will need to be replaced too. It didn’t want to move by itself, so the police officer used his car to push it off the road to clear traffic.
The rear wheel is pointed about 10° to the right, so there must be suspension damage and there might be additional damage to the drivetrain. It’s at the body shop now and I’m working on getting a rental. More to come....
I spoke with TWO insurance adjusters, one from his insurance, one from mine. They will be coordinating an estimate for repair sometime in the next two days.
Thank you for all the sympathy and well-wishes. I’ll update when I get the rental.

Oh shit that wheel doesn’t look good. You’re right, there must be further damage with the suspension and/or control arms. Good thing you’re okay though. The car can always be repaired, but you can’t be.

My guess is ~$5500.

I’m saying low 5 figures. Below surface metal repair, non replaceable panels repaired, two new doors, suspension damage, new airbags and fixing interior trim as well as the passenger seat the airbag came out of.

My wife was rearended by a Volvo S60 (She drives a XV Crosstrek) and did extensive damage to the right rear suspension, which was seen by the auto-body shop and not the insurance adjuster. So don’t be surprised that there is more wrong than what meets the eye.

I'm going with totaled. I think there will be enough structure damage they'll write it off.

I don’t think so. The repair estimate would have to get within 75% of ACV for the insurance co to total it. I’m guessing this is a 2013 or 2014 WRX? Those easily go for the low 20's so damage would have to be over $15k to total it. I’d be well and truly shocked if the estimate comes back that high.

What panels aren’t replaceable? Do you mean inner structure? I’m seeing:
New front door skin
New rear door assembly
New sidebody panel
Repair the wheel (unless it’s bent)
Some suspension work (I think fairly minor)
Refinish (paint+clear) new panels
The front and rear fascias are undamaged which really helps lower the severity of these kids of hits.

This is $2,500 worth of damage. Newer cars aren’t exactly inexpensive to repair.

By non replaceable I mean a panel like a front fender that can be unbolted and new one put in its place. The rear fender and inner rear fender structure that goes into the rear door sills are both pieces you need to cut and weld back in. That is neither cheap nor is it easy. Doors themselves are like 4-500 bucks before markup. Lets just assume new wheel, $350. Quickly adding parts up for rear suspension, because they will most likely replace most the components on the right rear with it shifted like that, will easily come up to around a grand. Then you have seat upholstery, multiple air bags at probably a couple hundred each. Add some markup to all those parts, then there is paint, alignment and labor. While I doubt it will be 15k+ I can definitely see it being 5 figures when all said and done. Plus with it being an insurance covered job, you know well and good they will milk it for what its worth.

Welded panels are drilled-out and replaced in collision repairs every day. Bolted panels are going the way of the dodo bird these days; most are not spot welded to the inner structure or epoxied on. I’ll be surprised if this repair hits $10K.

It’s probably not actually totaled but I always go with the worst possible option first. That way when it’s not, you can be happy.
I think we’ve all seen not so bad looking accidents turn out to be totaled before.
I got clipped by a drunk driver years go. He hit right behind the rear passenger wheel. Looked like mostly bumper damage, no airbag issues. Ended up being over $6k in repairs.
I’m thinking at least $10k for this.

Make sure both adjusters are aware that the cop pushed your car with his and so any damage from that is related to the loss and not unrelated prior damage. Last thing you want is to end up with an insurance company claiming whatever marks the cop left were there before the accident.

Did both driver and passenger side curtains go off?
Regardless, that does not look like a cheap repair, at all. I fully expect this to be totaled. It doesn't seem like much, but as was mentioned before, parts aren't cheap and neither is labor.

2 doors at about 900 each. Rear quarter and rocker 1000. 1 wheel 250. Headliner 500. Curtain airbag 250. Rear right lower control arm 150 at best complete knee 500, if the subframe isn’t damaged. That’s all before labour. And just a Educated guess.
